Core functions of Litigation Paralegal:

1.    Assist attorney in preparing trials, hearings, applications and closings;

2.    Researching facts of cases, identifying appropriate laws, judicial decisions, and legal articles relevant to cases;

3.    Client and witness interviews, taking notes, preparing memos for testimony

4.    Drafting legal documents including correspondences, pleadings, statements, applications, affidavits, notices, orders, legal briefs, submissions, bundles  

5.    Obtaining medical records and police records;

6.    Conducting pre-claim investigations and performing administrative duties (calendar hearings and deadlines, organize case files, manage logistics);

7.    Provide assistance with case settlements;

8.    Obtaining relevant documents from the court (performed formal orders, final judgements, mediation forms, court dates for hearings)  

Core functions of Legal Receptionist

  • Greeting clients and visitors and answering visitor inquiries
  • Answering and routing incoming calls on a multi-line telephone system
  • Scheduling and routing clients
  • Maintaining and scheduling conference rooms, waiting area
  • Ordering supplies, scanning, photocopying, faxing and filing documents
  • Collecting and routing mail and hand-delivered packages
  • Performing administrative duties such as data entry, word processing, establishing/maintaining new case files


Skills and Traits of Legal Receptionist

         Must possess excellent interpersonal and customer service skills to

communicate with senior level attorneys, clients, opposing counselcourt staff.

         Must have the ability to operate multi-line telephone systems and office equipment

         Strong spelling and grammar skills are important in taking effective messages and drafting correspondence and reports.

         Familiarity with legal terms and jargon and an understanding of various office forms and legal documents

         Familiar with word processing, spreadsheet, database and billing platforms.

         Traits: professional appearance, polished demeanor, respect for confidentiality and discretion, attention to detail, positive, upbeat attitude, patience in dealing with difficult visitors, dependability


Requirements for Litigation Paralegal

         Proven working experience as a Litigation Paralegal with extensive Personal Injury Law experience;

         Applicable knowledge of motions, discovery, evidence, litigation documentation, court rules and procedures, practices etc

         Highly organized with ability to juggle multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment

         Strong writing and communication skills along with attention to detail

         Extensive computer and database expertise

         Paralegal associates degree or other relevant certificati
