Minister of National Security, Hon. Peter Bunting is this afternoon congratulating the police personnel from the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) and the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse, (CISOCA) in St. James for their swift and professional work which has led to the arrest of a suspect, and the questioning of others in connection with Monday night’s horrific rape of five females in Irwin, St. James.
“The relentless efforts of the investigators and the collaboration of the police teams speak to their determination to solve this case”, said Minister Bunting.
The National Security Minister joined hundreds of persons, including relatives of the rape victims who stood up in Sam Sharpe Square in Montego Bay at 10:00 this morning in support of the call to protest against violence, and in particular, violence against women and children.
Minister Bunting said he was encouraged by the presence of the wide cross-section of persons who turned out today, noting the presence of Members of Parliament and Parish Councillors from both the Government and Opposition, members of the Ministers’ Fraternal, Women’s and Civic Groups.
During his brief visit to Montego Bay, the National Security Minister also visited the father of one of the victims.
