Minister of National Security Robert Montague has condemned the killing of Correctional Officer Michael White who was shot and killed in the Fletchers Land area of Kingston last Friday June 17.

Mr. White, who has been working with the Department of Correctional Services for 15 years, was attached to the New Broughton Sunset Rehabilitation Centre in Manchester.

“This attack on Mr. White, an officer of the law, is condemned at the highest level,” said Minister Montague.

The National Security Minister said the killing once again shows that we are all vulnerable to criminals, and it should serve as motivation for every law-abiding citizen to redouble efforts to create an environment of law and order where law-breakers can find no safe haven.

In expressing deep regret and sadness at the killing, Minister Montague also urged residents who may have witnessed the incident to report it to the police, by calling 119, 811, or using the Stay Alert app available from the Google Play Store.

The National Security Minister said the depth of grief and anguish being felt by Mr. White’s spouse, children, relatives, friends and colleagues will be overwhelming, however he urged them to turn their eyes to the Lord for grace and strength to sustain them in this difficult period.
