National Security Minister briefs Cabinet on crime situation

Minister of National Security, Hon. Robert Montague, this afternoon briefed Cabinet on the current crime situation, and in particular events that have occurred in St. James over the past few days.

Minister Montague made a presentation outlining strategies and plans to deal with situation.

The National Security Minister said the army has been deployed and operations will be increased over the weekend.

In appealing to residents to remain calm and cooperate with the security forces, Minister Montague noted that the increased operations may mean persons will be inconvenienced.  He has asked for their patience.

“The security forces are moving swiftly to apprehend the offenders and cauterize the murders which have rocked the country in recent days,” said Minister Montague.

The National Security Minister assured the nation that the full force of the law will be applied, but with respect for people’s rights

Minister Montague also said he understands the feeling of fear in some communities in real, and urged persons with information about criminal activity to use the various channels to make reports anonymously to the police.
