The Jamaican Government is offering assistance to the United States in its rehabilitation efforts following the passage of Hurricane Mathew.
The Government’s offer was articulated by Minister of National Security Hon Robert Montague on Wednesday during discussions with senior representatives of the Department of Homeland Security, and the US State Department.
Noting that the island managed to escape serious damage from Hurricane Matthew, Minister Montague said Jamaica stands ready to provide help as the country continues its rehabilitation efforts.
He said the Jamaican government’s offer is being made in consideration of the longstanding relationship between both countries, and the fact that the United States has always been ready to provide help.
Minister Montague was on a two-day visit to Washington DC where he attended the Sixth Annual Caribbean-United States Security Cooperation Dialogue, which is part of the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative (CBSI) launched by President Obama in 2009.
