Anyone who believes in the power of stories, wants to write for young adults, and who has a great novel, creative non-fiction, or graphic novel in them cannot miss the chance to submit it to The CODE Burt Award for Caribbean Young Adult Literature before 31 October 2018.
The award, now in its sixth year, offers one of the most lucrative publishing deals available to Caribbean writers. It recognizes excellence in Caribbean-authored literature for young adults aged 12-18. To date, over 37,000 copies of award winning YA novels have been distributed throughout the Caribbean to young readers as part of the CODE Burt Award literary and readership programme.
The CODE Burt Award, administered by the Bocas Lit Fest, is given annually to three English-language literary works for YA readers, created by Caribbean writers and illustrators. The winning title is awarded CDN$10,000 and two finalists each receives CDN$2,000. All three writers are given traditional publishing deals with established Caribbean publishers who are guaranteed the purchase of up to 2,500 copies to be distributed through schools, libraries, and community centers across the region to young readers.

Established by CODE – a Canadian charitable organization that has been supporting literacy and learning for 59 years - with the generous support of the Literary Prizes Foundation and in partnership with the Bocas Lit Fest, the award aims to provide engaging and culturally relevant books for young people across the Caribbean which aids in their formal and social education.
Eligible manuscripts, books and graphic novels must be submitted to the Bocas Lit Fest in softcopy to The Bocas Lit Fest, no later than October 31, 2018. Updated eligibility guidelines and submission forms are available at www.bocaslitfest.com. For more information, contact us at burtaward@bocaslitfest.com or call 1- 868 222-7099.
