New IT training centre for Kingston



A new information technology training unit has been opened at the EXED Community College in Kingston with the assistance of the Indian Government under its Technical and Economic Cooperation programme.

The project issues from the Memorandum of Understanding signed on September 3, 2008 in Kingston between Deputy Prime Minster and Minster of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Dr. Kenneth Baugh on behalf of the government of Jamaica and High Commissioner of India Mohinda S. Grover on behalf of the government of India.

The centre, located within the college at 137 Mountain View Avenue in Kingston, will be equipped with computer hardware, software and course material under the agreement.

Three Indian tutors who will work in the centre for two years.

The centre is expected to train around 800 students per year. According to the release from the High Commission of India, the centre should contribute significantly to the promotion of IT skills among youth in Jamaica.

On Tuesday, February 10 the centre was officially opened during a brief ceremony at the Community College.
